Overview

Florida Polytechnic University selected QuakeLogic Inc. to supply, install, and commission a high-capacity 600 kN Universal Testing Machine (UTM) as part of its expanding materials research and engineering laboratory infrastructure. The project required a turnkey delivery—including logistics, on-site installation, system calibration, software configuration, training, and technical support.

QuakeLogic successfully completed the full life-cycle of the project, ensuring seamless integration of the UTM into the university’s laboratory workflows while meeting all performance, safety, and compliance requirements.


Delivered System – 600 kN Servo-Hydraulic UTM Package

Complete system included:

  • High-Capacity Load Frame – 600 kN
  • Automatic Hydraulic Power Pack for continuous, stable loading control
  • Digital Data Acquisition and Control System with high-speed, high-precision sampling
  • User-Friendly Control, Test, and Reporting Software
  • Hydraulic Grips for Flat and Round Specimens
  • Testing Capabilities:
    • Flat Samples: 0–40 mm (adapters for 0–40 mm available separately)
    • Round Samples: 8–32 mm
  • Electrical Requirements: 220 V, 50 Hz, Single Phase
  • Computer System: Provided as optional per client preference

The UTM machine delivered to Florida Polytechnic University is engineered for tension, compression, flexure, and advanced material characterization across metals, composites, and engineered materials.


Scope of Work & Technical Execution

1. Logistics, Delivery & Pre-Installation Coordination

QuakeLogic managed complete transportation from the manufacturing site to the university, including:

  • Crating and shock-proof shipment
  • Pre-delivery inspection checklist
  • Coordination with campus facilities for indoor delivery and equipment placement
  • Verification of electrical power and hydraulic safety requirements

2. On-Site Installation

Our engineering team conducted full system setup:

  • Positioning of the 600 kN load frame
  • Mounting and alignment of hydraulic power pack
  • Installation of control electronics and data acquisition hardware
  • Integration of hydraulic grips and test fixtures
  • Alignment of actuators, load cells, and sensors
  • System-level safety checks and physical integrity verification

3. Commissioning, Calibration & Start-Up

QuakeLogic performed a multi-stage commissioning protocol that included:

  • Hydraulic line purging and pressure testing
  • Load cell calibration and displacement verification
  • Software configuration and test profile setup
  • Verification of alarms and interlocks to the owner’s PLC or RTU monitoring panel
  • Test-run validation under no-load and loaded conditions
  • Submission of commissioning report to the university

4. Faculty & Student Training

Hands-on training sessions were delivered covering:

  • System operation & safe testing procedures
  • Test creation, templates, and automated sequences
  • Real-time monitoring and data acquisition
  • Generating test reports with stress–strain curves
  • Routine maintenance best practices
  • Troubleshooting and system diagnostics

QuakeLogic ensured that all faculty and laboratory staff became fully comfortable and self-sufficient in operating the machine.
